Why sex therapy as a focus of somatic psychotherapy?
To answer a question with a question: What could be more somatic than sex? In the physiological aspect or “body sense,” sex connotes the idea of two beings joining together in sexual intercourse. In the psychological and “felt sense,” sex plays a powerful role in human bonding. Both physical and emotional sexual connection can lead to stronger relationships with ourselves and with others.
Healthy sexuality is the basis for a healthy life. “Sexual energy is the life force made manifest. It is the ultimate creative drive that inspires and animates us.” (The Pleasure Zone, by Dr. Stella Resnick)
